As I realize how much passionately love reading Epic fantasy (especially coming of the age types where the hero must develop), I decided to permanently ditch urban fantasy (though I'll finish No More Hope, making it the last of the Blood for Soul, which will be a trilogy rather than a series.

This will probably be the last Urban fantasy I write for a while. If ever.). There is simply not enough of the COA epic/high fantasies on the market in which I'm looking for --I READ THEM ALL. (And the installments of the next series are either in writing such as Lightbringer 5 or may not come out at all such as KingKiller Chronicle 3.). I can't believe it took me this long to realize, with a blazing fire in my eyes, of how much I truly enjoy these stories. So much that I'll write my own. I've already started a concept and to me, it's so good that I will accept nothing less of a...    less

(Is there more to your post after "nothing less of a..."? It cuts off there, or at least I can't see the rest of it.) I wouldn't say that epic fantasy is my FAVORITE genre (I refuse to pick just one!), but of novels published recently, I trust epic fantasy a lot more than I trust urban fantasy, much of which seems to be paranormal romance (vampire/werewolf/rutabaga love triangles) in disguise. (Even the fae/human/fae love triangle in one of my favorite urban fantasy novels would have been tedious if it had been the main focus of the story.) Plus, I enjoy detailed worldbuilding, which epic fantasy tends to have in abundance.  less

That aside, world-building means a lot to me as well as characters. I enjoyed UF until I noticed the same reoccurring archetypes... You can expect it in mediums such as anime, but books; I'd like to believe each author is but a creator of his own fictional plane.

I'm trying to work on the description to reflect that idea more.
Perhaps (if the site gets bigger and starts bringing in more money) I can hire someone to do some coding for me.

I've been "newest best seller" with Fragment once, back in 2016 for about 3-4 weeks, before the ranking plummeted faster than I could say, "catch it!" That being said, working on a 3 month schedule is the fastest I've ever released anything and definitely proposes a challenge. 1000 words a day minimum. Any extra could warrant a day off.

(Derek even said he had friends raking in 50,000 a month which I call BS) This isn't about the money, I'm fine with a day job. It's getting the audience. Did everyone here simply take a marketing class and I'm just the late guy to the party or what I'm not expecting to be at this level until I have at least 3-5 book of the series out; but according to Derek, I'm pretty much doomed. Didn't get anywhere close to 100 sales on launch day (though there were suddenly 500 Kindle Unlimited reads).

The things that do seem to have an effect are 1) a well-written, well-EDITED story, and 2) a good cover. Also, even trad authors don't start making real sales (meaning they make at least $500 per year from their books -- together, not each) until they have at least five books out, and ten is even better. anyone making megabucks with their first book is a fluke, and even they can't honestly tell you what they did to get that to happen.  less
